New rules for shipments containing batteries!

In the recent years there have been several serious accidents with air planes containing Lithium ION or Lithium METAL batteries. These accidents have resulted in fire, air plane crash and fatalities.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (“ICAO”) recently announced changes to the dangerous goods regulations for the air transport of Lithium ION and Lithium METAL batteries. These will take effect worldwide on April the 1st 2016. Please notice that all vendors, distributors etc. have to handle battery shipments according to the dangerous goods regulations.

As of April the 1st it will only be possible to ship Lithium ION and Lithium METAL batteries with road based transport services (Standard Services). No UPS Express services or any other air based services with batteries are possible.

These new rules have effect on products as laptop batteries, power banks, coin button batteries, batteries for mobile phones and cameras etc. In general batteries which are sold separately.
