    Thermal Testing

DataPort 25 thermal testing was performed in a standard PC chassis. Two 7200 RPM IDE drives were installed in a DP25 carrier. An Iometer test was run to simulate a high-demand file server application. Temperatures were measured on the motors of both drives and the top of the upper drive. Highest temperatures were found on the drive motors. After two hours, 47.1C was measured on the upper drive motor. Subsequent measurements hovered around 46C. To ensure accurate results, testing continued until after the drive temperatures had stabilized. After five hours of continuous testing, hard drive temperatures remained well below the drive manufacturer's specification for maximum operating temperature of 55C.
