USB4 is a significant improvement to the USB architecture, allowing for the coexistence of several data and display protocols on a single high-speed link with a aggregate bandwidth of up to 40Gbps.
The VL830 chipset from Via Labs supports both USB and DisplayPort and is fully compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and USB4 systems. It is also backward compatible with previous-generation devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones that enable DisplayPort Alternate Mode over USB-C.
VL830 offers up to double the video bandwidth compared to DisplayPort Alternate Mode over USB Type-C and can simultaneously support a single display up to 8K 60 Hz high-dynamic-range display and several USB 3.2 Gen2 devices, depending on the host device capabilities.
When the host device supports DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST), multiple displays can be supported while still enjoying fast SuperSpeed USB data transfers.
Please note:
MacOS does not support MST technology.
MacOS only support Single Stream Transport (SST) mirror mode via USB.
