Another critical measurement used in determining wildfire forecasts is vapour pressure deficit (VPD) which indicates the rate in which the atmospheres moisture is drawn from vegetation and fuels. The daily VPD has increased 25% from 1970 to 2020- resulting in hotter, drier air that is favourable to increased burning.
