Choosing the Right Wireless Access Point

What is Wireless Access Point (WAP) and how can it benefit your business?

Let’s start off with the basics. Wireless Access Points create a wireless local area network, or WLAN, usually for bigger buildings and offices. WAP connects to wired routers via ethernet cable, which helps to boost the WiFi signal to a specific location. If you have a location in your office or building that requires WiFi access, you can install an access point and run an ethernet cable through the ceiling back to the main router/server room.

Compared to a range extender, access points are better for modern businesses. While range extenders are good at increasing WiFi coverage, they do not increase its available bandwidth. Opposing this, an access point can handle over 60 simultaneous connections each. Therefore, if multiple access points are installed throughout a building or office, employees can roam throughout the office without experiencing any network interruptions. Access points offer a seamless way to switch through networks without losing connectivity.

What are the advantages of using wireless access points?

If your business has both employees and guests that connect using laptops, desktops, mobile phones, and tablets, the wireless access points may be an excellent solution for any network connectivity issues you may be experiencing. At 60 simultaneous connections each, access points will provide full flexibility to scale the number of devices supported on your network.

This is especially true if the access point is WiFi 6 ready. IEEE802.11ax, or Wifi 6, is a technology that was designed to improve the reliability and speed of wireless networks. This is an efficient way of increasing bandwidth sharing, having greater channel width, as well as better support of Internet of Things (IoT). With a company such as Ubiquiti Networks, you would have an access point that you will know if reliable and supports the newer Wifi 6 technology. Their range of WAPs cover businesses of all sizes, with options available for indoor or outdoor use.

Ubiquiti’s range of UniFi 6 access points can support ‘over 300 concurrent devices and deliver a reliably smooth wireless experience…across multiple devices to improve upload and download speeds.’

While the U6 access points mark the future, their tried-and-true models such as UniFi HD and nanoHD remain renowned favourites amongst a wide variety of users. They are reliable models for providing consistently strong signals to a vast quantity of devices, which is fundamental in our digital age.
